Join Seqwater for a behind-the-scenes look at Ewen Maddock Dam and Water Treatment Plant.

Built across Addlington Creek in two stages in 1976 and 1983, Ewen Maddock Dam is an important part of South East Queensland’s drinking water network. Located alongside the Ewen Maddock Water Treatment Plant, the dam can hold up to 16,587 million litres of water when full, enough to fill more than 6,600 Olympic swimming pools.

Officially opened in 1976 as Caloundra’s water supply, the dam continues to support the region’s growing communities today. As an un-gated dam, water naturally flows over the spillway when storage levels reach capacity.

Stretching 660 metres in length and fed by a 21-square-kilometre catchment, Ewen Maddock Dam is part of a unique approach to water management. Seqwater is one of the few bulk water providers in Australia that manages open catchments, allowing the community to enjoy recreation opportunities alongside vital water infrastructure.

Whether you’re interested in learning more about where your water comes from or discovering one of the Sunshine Coast’s hidden gems, this experience offers a rare opportunity to see essential infrastructure in action.

Before or after your tour, take time to enjoy everything Maddock Park has to offer, including picnic facilities, free BBQs, a designated swimming area, playground and multi-use trails suitable for walking, cycling and horse riding.

TOUR TIPS

Follow all instructions from Seqwater and Open House volunteers during the tour.

For safety reasons, tour participants must be at least 8 years of age.

All guests are required to wear the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
– Wide-brim hat
– Sun-safe clothing (long-sleeved shirts and long trousers are mandatory)
– Enclosed flat shoes
– Sunglasses (optional)

Children (8-18 years of age) must always accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Tours involve walking on uneven surfaces and around operational infrastructure.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled tour time.

Photography is welcome in designated areas as directed by your tour guide.
