Situated just one block from the surf break, Moffat Morphing House is a masterful example of sustainable, small-footprint coastal living. Designed by Arcke, this dynamic retreat seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor spaces, reflecting the owners’ love of camping, nature, and informal family living.
The compact yet adaptable home comfortably sleeps six adults, with generous day beds for additional guests. Its layout features intimate landscaped courtyards, larger gathering spaces, and an interstitial perimeter zone defined by operable slatted timber screens. These screens filter light and breezes when closed, and open to extend the living space into the garden, blurring the boundary between inside and out.
Passive design principles are central to the home’s comfort: north-facing sliding screens, high ceilings, and abundant louvred windows maximize natural light and cross ventilation. Materials—including thermally modified timber battens, fibre cement sheeting, polished concrete, and warm Australian hardwoods—reflect the surrounding coastal environment and vernacular.
A true testament to innovative, environmentally sensitive design, Moffat Morphing House offers a sanctuary that is both functional and beautiful, redefining coastal living on the Sunshine Coast.
