Since the 1970s, the Architecture of the Sunshine Coast has received significant national and international recognition - now being acclaimed as the ‘Sunshine Coast School of Architecture’. Lindsay and Kerry Clare worked for the legendary architect Gabriel Poole in the ’70s before establishing their own practice in 1979. Based on their early projects working on the Sunshine Coast, Lindsay and Kerry developed a set of design principles they have applied to a diverse range of projects, from small remote dwellings to major public buildings, including significant projects in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Rockhampton. They have current projects in Darwin, Gold Coast, Newcastle, and Bendigo. The Clares are the recipients of over 50 AIA Architecture Awards; they have had their work showcased in many significant national and international publications and have exhibited their work around the world.Of the eight Queensland Architects who have received AIA Gold Medals since 1960, Lindsay and Kerry Clare are the only recipients currently in practice.
